REPUBLIC DAY CAMP: EXPERIENCE IT TO UNDERSTAND IT

THE Delhi Republic Day Parade, the largest and the most important of the parades marking the Republic  Day celebrations in India showcases India’s defence capability and its cultural and social heritage. National Cadet Corps ( NCC)  Cadets also gets an opportunity  to be a part of this esteemed jamboree via NCC Republic Day Camp. This camp showcases the merits of NCC to the nation.

Being an Air NCC cadet, I,Kajal Agarwal , 1(B) AIR NCC, also got an opportunity to participate in Republic Day Camp 2019 as Best Cadet, Air,SW ,West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate . Recapitulating the glory of the Camp, it was indeed Sublime, intrepid and wonderful. The thrilling Rajpath Parade, exhilarating  sound of bands, visiting of respected dignitaries,  Prime Minister’s Rally- all these just things just stimulated the veins and increased the zeal of an individual.

My Experience

As I was the  participant of Best Cadet Competition in Republic Day Camp,I would like to share my experience related to the events in this contest. Best Cadet Competition is a 900 Marks  contest comprising of events like written test, drill, firing,  Personality and Communication test, DG interview. One should always remember any test requires proper planning accompanied with smart study.

So before preparing for Republic Day Camp  it is always advisable to have a glimpse over the paper pattern, topics involved and Marks allocation. The 150 mark written test is the first event of the Competition and scoring less than 30% in it was the direct ticket to exit from the Competition. Both Firing and Drill are 150 mark Competition each and the major share of 300 Marks  is held by the Personality and Communication test. Topics involved in Group Discussion are  very basic and an individual’s point backed by some current examples is only required to get hold over the event. My personal interview questions were related to SWOT Analysis and Introduction.

An individual with rigorous and honest practice can definitely perform well in the drill and firing test as these events requires everyday practice. Also a Best Cadet fetches 50 extra points in participating in atleast 3 cultural events.

In my case, these events were Flag area briefing, Group song Emcee and a participant in ballet. My performance in other events were satisfactory except firing Competition.

As a result, I was unable to make it to the DG interview  and yes, the acclaimed title of All India Best Cadet. The results were a bit demoralizing for me but then I recalled the words of my Commanding Officer,  Group Captain  Rajesh Sharma.

He once said, ” God always gives hardships to those whom he believes has the capability of going through it. Being a medal holder in RDC should never be your target because your end priority always rests with your ambition. So never make yourself the slave of any title. “

Republic  Day camp  is a culmination of so many competitions – Rajpath Drill, PM Rally Competition, Line area, Best Cadet,  Youth Exchange Programme, Cultural events and many more to count. Being a participant in this camp will teach you discipline, evolve your personality, enhance your outlook and above all a lifelong learning experience provided the learner is ready. This camp will always be My Cut above journey in my entire NCC career.

Jai Hind
